Community Based Art Exhibition with Artists in Hackney Wick
a warehouse artist community which was at one point the highest concentration of artists in Europe featuring Navneet Jayakumar, Jose Canepa, Ayava (Aleksandra Karpowicz ), Belle Jacque Olos, Luis Amalia, James Alfred Hart, Jan Bernet, Nils Johanesson, Mars Leon, Sinem Reynolds, Mathew Beck, Wedgley Snipes, Matthew Nuez, Enorah Nydell,
Hackney Wick has been a very vibrant artist community for the better part of the last 20 years, with Artists originally occupying the warehouses that were originally used as well as Warehouses which was originally an act of resistance to the standard way of living that prevails in London. It has since acted as a platform for Artists to practice their art and live a more practical life more attuned to the lifestyle. However, what was once a vibrant community has now been gentrified into Apartment blocks and the artists who called it home have been forced to move as the warehouses have been forcefully evicted and converted into Apartments and other business establishments that have left very little space for the practice and showcasing of ART. Wicked Threads is an exhibition showcasing the artists who are still holding strong in their pursuit of Art around the crumbling dynasty that is Hackney Wick and inadvertently showcases the struggles of being a full-time artist in a city like London
